Title

Microarray technique: a powerful method for gene expression analyses

Abstract

The increased knowledge of gene sequences allows the construction of high resolution platforms for studying genomic differences in cells exposed to different interior and exterior environment.

Microarray method consists of three important parts: fixing the probes (genes) on a glass slide; hybridizing the target (cDNA) with florescent dye markers; examining the luminescence results with imaging, statistical and bioinformatic methods.

Microarray approach allows bioinformatics to study how the transcription levels of all genes on microarrays change between different biological conditions (gene expression profiling) and also provides ways to describe single gene specific sequence trough SNP's or microsatellites (genotyping): in short, microarray technique is a method to obtain very large amounts of gene expression data with a minimum number of experiments. Therefore, microarrays are a quick method for determining which of the large number of studied genes should be involved in some interesting pathologies and selected for further more classical analysis.
